John Wick: Chapter 2 is a 2017 American action thriller film directed by Chad Stahelski and written by Derek Kolstad. It is the sequel to the 2014 film John Wick, and stars Keanu Reeves as the titular character, an ex-hitman who is forced back into the criminal underworld when a former associate plots to seize control of an international assassins' guild.





The film begins shortly after the events of the first film, with John Wick recovering his stolen car from a Russian gang. He is approached by Santino D'Antonio (Riccardo Scamarcio), an Italian crime lord who wants John to carry out a hit on his sister so he can take her seat on the High Table, a council of powerful crime bosses. John initially refuses, but after D'Antonio destroys his house in retaliation, John reluctantly agrees.

The film is a non-stop adrenaline rush, filled with high-octane action sequences, stunning cinematography, and breathtaking stunts. Reeves once again proves that he is one of the best action stars in the business, bringing a raw intensity and a sense of vulnerability to the role of John Wick. The supporting cast is equally impressive, with Scamarcio delivering a chilling performance as the ruthless D'Antonio, and Common turning in a standout performance as Cassian, a rival hitman who is tasked with taking out John.





One of the standout features of John Wick: Chapter 2 is its world-building. The film expands upon the mythology of the first film, introducing us to the complex underworld of assassins and hitmen. We learn more about the Continental, a hotel for assassins that serves as a neutral ground where no business can be conducted. We also meet the Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne), a shadowy figure who runs a network of homeless assassins.

The film is also notable for its visual style. Stahelski, who started his career as a stuntman and stunt coordinator, brings a unique perspective to the action scenes. The camera is often positioned in such a way as to make the viewer feel like they are right in the middle of the action. The fight scenes are meticulously choreographed, with each blow landing with a visceral impact.





The film is not without its flaws, however. Some viewers may find the film's violence and body count excessive, and the plot can be convoluted at times. There is also a sense of familiarity to the film, with many of the action set pieces feeling like retreads of scenes from the first film.
