The Titanic, released in 1997, is a film directed by James Cameron that tells the story of the RMS Titanic, a British passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean in 1912. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Jack Dawson and Kate Winslet as Rose DeWitt Bukater, two fictional characters who fall in love on board the ill-fated ship. The film begins in 1996, with an expedition to the wreck of the Titanic. A team of explorers, led by Brock Lovett (Bill Paxton), are searching for a valuable diamond that is believed to be on board the ship. However, what they find instead is a drawing of a nude woman, wearing the diamond. The woman in the drawing turns out to be Rose, who was a passenger on the Titanic.

The film then flashes back to 1912, where we meet Rose and her fiancé, Cal Hockley (Billy Zane), who are traveling on the Titanic's maiden voyage. Rose is unhappy with her life and feels trapped by her wealthy fiancé and the social norms of the time. She contemplates suicide by jumping off the back of the ship, but is saved by Jack, a poor artist who has won his ticket in a game of poker. As Rose and Jack spend more time together, their feelings for each other deepen. They share a passionate kiss on the bow of the ship, with the iconic line "I'm flying!" being uttered by Rose as Jack holds her outstretched arms. However, their romance is cut short when the Titanic hits an iceberg and begins to sink. Rose and Jack work together to try and survive, but their efforts are ultimately in vain. Jack dies from hypothermia in the freezing water, while Rose is rescued by a lifeboat.

However, the film has also faced criticism for its fictionalization of the events surrounding the sinking of the Titanic. Some historians have pointed out inaccuracies in the film, such as the placement of the Titanic's lifeboats and the portrayal of the ship breaking in half before sinking. Others have criticized the film for its portrayal of class differences, arguing that it oversimplifies the complex social dynamics of the time. Despite its flaws, the Titanic remains a beloved classic and a testament to the power of cinema. Its timeless story of love and tragedy has captured the hearts of audiences around the world and cemented its place in film history.
